Fans of really fine banjo and guitar picking will have a rare opportunity to see one of the best around.

Ken Perlman is one of the pre-eminent fingerpickers in traditional American folk music, a fine performer, and one of the important musician/scholars preserving our musical heritage. According to Acoustic Guitar magazine, "Ken Perlman's books have long been among the best places to learn the Anglo-Celtic-Appalachian end of fingerpicking... The 31 selections, in very readable tab and standard notation, come from both sides of the Atlantic and range from beginner pieces such as Old Joe Clark to metrically tricky numbers such as the Northumbrian Nancy."

What he writes about, he plays with ease and grace. Valley Folk Friends of Traditional Arts present concerts once a month at the Tanglewood Community Nature Center in Elmira. For more info and directions, call the nature center (607) 732-6060; or Valley Folk (607) 732-1828.
