Happy Traum in Concert

The Cornell Folk Song Club started off its season with the Nields, a contemporary folk duo with pop-rock overtones. It will change its direction considerably with its next concert as it reaches back to the early days of the folk revival and brings Happy Traum. Happy has been involved in traditional and contemporary folk music since before the Nields sisters were born. For nearly half a century he has been admired as a performer, folklorist, guitar and banjo teacher, music arranger, and record producer. Like his friend, the late Dave Van Ronk, Happy was there in Greenwich Village at its birth as a folk menace and mecca. A geographic trendsetter, he moved to Woodstock in 1967, two years before the rest of the world discovered it.

Many of you who haven't heard his name have heard his playing. He's the only other musician on one side of Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, Volume II, and he's played and recorded with as diverse a lot as Priscilla Herdman, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Allen Ginsberg. When he performs in concert, however, he most often plays solo or with his brother, Artie.

Happy doesn't tour very much, so it is a real treat to tempt him west to Ithaca. Please join us.
